US Health Authorities Issue Draft RFP-lll on the Public Tender for the Purchase of up to 80 Million doses of MVA-based Smallpox Vaccine

The US Department of Health and Human Services issued on Friday, 13 May 2005 a Draft RFP-lll on the public tender for the purchase of up to 80 million doses of an MVA-based smallpox vaccine. We refer to the US Government’s website, www.fedbizopps.gov. (A link to the published Draft-RFP-lll can also be found on Bavarian Nordic’s website; www.bavarian-nordic.com). Bavarian Nordic will provide more detailed information when the specific conditions of the actual public tender (RFP-lll) is issued, most likely before the end of June.

Bavarian Nordic’s President and CEO, Peter Wulff said, “We are pleased that the public tender process for the purchase of 80 million doses of MVA-based smallpox vaccine has now started. The volume in the tender is greater than the market expected. We are ready to send in our response within the given reply period and hope that the US authorities expedite the program so that we can begin to deliver IMVAMUNE™ smallpox vaccine as soon as possible after 1 September, 2005 at which time we will start commercial scale production of IMVAMUNE™ from our new Kvistgård facility.”
