Bavarian Nordic Able to Manufacture Influenza Vaccines

In the past year, Bavarian Nordic has evaluated various vaccine production business opportunities beyond the already-established production of its IMVAMUNE® smallpox vaccine. One of the business opportunities evaluated is to expand the Kvistgård manufacturing facility with the production of influenza vaccines.

Bavarian Nordic has noted the interest for the establishment of a shared Nordic manufacturing facility for the production of influenza vaccines according to statements in the pandemic emergency preparedness plan by the Danish National Serum Institute (Statens Serum Institut) and the Danish National Board of Health (Sundhedsstyrelsen). A report on this issue is expected from a working group established under The Nordic Council (Nordisk Ministerråd).

In record-time, Bavarian Nordic has established vaccine production in Kvistgård with an annual capacity of 40 million doses of vaccines. This expertise can easily be applied in relation to the production of influenza vaccines. According to the company’s assessment, a facility with an annual capacity of approximately 50 million doses can be established for approximately DKK 400 million within a timeframe of 1-1-½ years.
