Bavarian Nordic A/S announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a patent to the company which further strengthens its intellectual property position on MVA.
The new patent ("Modified vaccinia ankara virus variant" - US Patent No. 6,913,752) grants claims that are directed to an MVA-based vaccinia virus having specific improved properties, such as that it does not replicate in human cells, compared to other MVA strains which may replicate in certain human cells. This new patent, as well as the USPTO patent received by the company on MVA-BN® in 2004, are based on the same patent priority from a patent application filed in Denmark in 2000.
Peter Wulff, President and CEO said, "This latest patent from the USPTO reinforces our growing patent position on MVA and adds further value to our MVA-BN® technology base for the development of new and improved vaccines".
